Treating Arthritis With Colloidal Silver

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

As anyone who suffers from arthritis will tell you, finding the appropriate treatment can mean the difference between managing the condition and falling victim to significant physical limitations. The advancement of modern medication has certainly meant that arthritis sufferers have far greater effective treatments from which to choose. But conventional pharmaceuticals aside, there does exist a number of alternative therapies that have had continued success in treating the symptoms of arthritis. Colloidal silver – a substance derived from introducing pure silver to a positive charge – is considered to be a most effective natural therapy for the symptoms of arthritis.

Silver has long been known as a powerful natural barrier against germs. Through centuries silver and silver products were used in all manner of capacities in an effort to ward off bacteria. From its early use as a conduit for keeping food fresh and bacteria-free, to its use as a topical – and later, oral – agent used to support the human body’s fight against dangerous microorganisms, silver enjoyed a largely uncontested role as our most effective germ barrier. While the advent of modern antibiotics resulted in our decreased use of silver, this consistent substance was never far from the scene.

While silver alone is enormously effective as a preventative and healing agent, colloidal silver is even more so. Silver particles – when suspended in water and introduced to a positive electrical charge – become colloidal silver. This is silver in its smallest, most powerful form. When humans ingest or topically apply colloidal silver in this liquid state these microscopic particles of silver can be accessed by the smallest of cells in the human body. It is able to rid the body of damaged and unhealthy cells, as well as provide healthy cells with another protective layer. Colloidal silver has been shown to be effective in tackling over 650 microorganisms that can cause a variety of conditions – including arthritis.

Researchers have yet to determine the very specific causes of the many types of arthritis. What they do know is that in many cases, arthritic symptoms are a result of an inappropriate response by the body’s immune system, resulting in inflammation in the tissues of the joints. The body has – in essence – turned against itself. Because colloidal silver works as a natural agent in bolstering the body’s immune system, it allows the system to stop its attack and begin its healing. And the microscopic particles of silver present in colloidal silver can easily and effectively provide aid to damaged cells.

The medical community will undoubtedly uncover more details about arthritis and its various causes in the future. But for now, making use of the therapies available to us – both conventional and natural – can ease the symptoms of the disease.

Colloidal Silver For Long Term Health

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Far from an uncommon goal among humans, achieving good health has even become something of a societal pastime. From the gyms where we perform our fitness routines to the health food stores where we shop for the most natural products we can find, the modern day tools used for health are a part of our culture’s vernacular. Included in this repertoire for good health is the vigorous study of alternative methods of healing and prevention. One such element is colloidal silver – a natural substitute for pharmaceuticals in keeping illness and disease at bay.

When ancient cultures discovered that silver worked mysteriously as a natural germ fighter they began to use the metal accordingly – using it to store food and drink in an effort to preserve freshness. This ability of silver was genuine; what these cultures were experiencing first-hand was silver’s natural toxicity to microorganisms that can cause illness and disease. Such ability also allowed silver to fight infection in humans; silver was long known to have antifungal properties and was used often as a topical healing agent.

Colloidal silver is created by the suspension of microscopic silver particles in water that have been given an electric charge. This liquid silver was used quite often – both topically and orally – to treat and prevent all manner of illness and conditions. In fact, colloidal silver ran unopposed as a comprehensive medicine until modern antibiotics were developed; after which silver use declined steadily and was all but eliminated from modern medicine.

But colloidal silver had a resurgence in the 1990s as concern began to surface regarding the human body’s ability to develop immunities to certain antibiotics. In response, more and more people are looking to alternative methods for achieving long term health. Not surprisingly, we have once again looked to the natural medicines that preceded antibiotics.

The reason that colloidal silver has such success in achieving good health – and maintaining good health over the long term – is its ability to stop the illness before it even begins. Because the silver particles in colloidal silver have been reduced to their smallest state, they can easily access the cells of the human body. Their electrically charged state actually allows them to attract unhealthy cells in the body – flushing the body of those cells that could later cause disease or illness. In fact, it has been shown that colloidal silver is effective against over 650 microorganisms responsible for disease.

Clearly, the most important thing we can do in order to enjoy long term health is to stop illness before it starts. Getting healthy is much more difficult then staying healthy; and those tools that practice prevention just as vigorously as treatment – such as colloidal silver - will undoubtedly do well by us for many years to come.

Colloidal Silver And Disease Causing Organisms

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Alternative medicine has become a popular topic today as we begin to explore how effectively antibiotics and other traditional medicines will serve us in the future. As successful as conventional pharmaceuticals have been in relieving us of illness, there does exist the possibility that as we continue to use them our bodies will begin to build up immunities against them. This reason – along with a desire to expose the body to as little manufactured substances as possible – has fostered the increased exploration of alternative therapies. Colloidal silver is one such alternative therapy that continues to garner attention as an effective and safe tool for preventing and treating illness.

Colloidal silver is produced by suspending microscopic particles of pure silver in water and introducing them to a positive electrical charge. When ingested, this liquid colloidal silver is able to easily and effectively access the complex system of cells that make up the human body. In their charged state these minuscule silver particles actually attract and rid the body of damaged and unhealthy cells. In fact, silver – long known as a natural germ barrier – is a known threat, in its colloidal state, to over 650 microorganisms associated with disease and illness.

Some of the conditions that colloidal silver have been particularly effective in treating include flu, Lyme disease, arthritis, lupus, ulcers, acne, and even some forms of cancer.

Silver has been known as a barrier against bacteria for centuries. In long gone societies silver containers were used for food storage because of its ability to preserve freshness and protect food – and those ingesting it – against fungus and bacteria. In later societies silver was applied topically to treat skin conditions and wounds, as it naturally stopped the spread of infection. In the 1940s silver was being used on a regular basis as a medicinal therapy taken orally by patients. Its use declined significantly in the face of modern antibiotics; today colloidal silver is considered an alternative therapy – a still effective treatment but less mainstream than more commonly used traditional medicines.

What has remained the same, however, is silver’s effectiveness in not only treating – but protecting the body against – a myriad of illness and disease. It naturally bolsters the body’s immune system, helping it to fend off those microorganisms that can cause harm.

Medicine – and the ways in which we treat and protect our bodies – will surely continue to evolve over time. Undoubtedly, we will continue to explore those remedies – both conventional and natural – that most successfully and safely help to ensure our health now and well into the future.

Is Colloidal Silver Safe for Children? Are Prescription Antibiotics?

Monday, July 16th, 2007

No sane parent would knowingly do something to harm their child. Whether buckling them in a car seat or forcing them to eat their veggies – we all want our children to be safe and healthy. As good parents, we have to question everything that we give to our children.

The question today is – can children use high-quality true silver colloids safely? The simple answer is – YES. There have been no reported cases of side-effects in children or infants, although, like most supplements, the recommended dosage should be adjusted for children and infants according to body weight.

We know that Colloidal Silver is thought to boost the immune system and work as a sort of “natural antibiotic” and we have no reports of side-effects in children. Plus, there are numerous websites and Message Boards popping up all over the place featuring testimonials singing the praises of Mesosilver and its positive effect on people of all ages and states of health.

Maybe what we need to talk about now are the side effects caused by common prescription medication taken by children everyday. Take, for example, Amoxicillin, a frequently prescribed antibiotic often used as the first line of defense against infection.

A government website lists 8 serious possible side effects of the drug, including skin rash, excessive tiredness and seizures, to name a few. A more mainstream medical website, www.askdocweb.com lists no less than 19 possible side effects – some of them relatively common such as tooth discoloration in young children and hyperactivity.

Now take these possible side effects and factor in the scarier fact when it comes to many antibiotics: bacteria can form an immunity to these antibiotics and form “superbugs”.

As a parent myself, I know our nature is not to second guess doctors, who surely have the well-being of the patient as their priority. But still, the thought of giving my child a substance that may in fact weaken his immune system when there may be a healthier solution – is hard to take.

Think about it.

No Risk of Argyria with Mesosilver

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

If you have been researching silver colloids trying to determine if they are right for you, you have no doubt stumbled upon the new and somewhat frightening term Argyria.

By now you probably know that argyria is a graying of the skin caused by a build-up of certain forms of silver within the body’s cells. Perhaps the scariest fact about argyria is that, while it is not fatal, it is known to be permanent. No one, regardless of potential benefits, wants to be permanently discolored.

So, how do you know if the silver product you take will put you at risk for argyria?

The first thing you should know is that Mesosilver will NOT cause argyria. Argyria is not caused by true silver colloids (see previous post) like Mesosilver. Remember that a true silver colloid is made up of nanometer sized particles. These particles leave the body via natural excretory systems within a few days of use. They do not build up in the body and do not cause argyria.

What does cause argyria?

• Silver salts (compounds) like silver nitrate
• High concentrations of ionic silver
• Protein based silver products, also known as “silver protein” or “mild silver protein”
• Inhaling high concentrations of silver dust

Argyria is a very real threat when overuse of certain forms of silver occurs. Mesosilver, however, because it is a true colloidal silver, will not cause this strange disorder.

How Can I Tell the Difference Between Collodial Silver and Ionic Silver?

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

Most health food stores today sell some form of silver in a solution that boasts a claim to improve immune systems and all around health.

But remember, not all products labeled silver are colloids.  The purest, most effective form of colloidal silver comes in a solution that contains over 50% nanoparticles of silver.  Mesosilver generally contains 80% of silver nanoparticles.  A solution that does not contain a majority of silver nanoparticles is called Ionic Silver (though you will rarely find this term on the label).

In a previous blog, we put on our lab coats and learned about the chemical difference between a true silver colloid and ionic silver.  But we also discovered that the labeling of these sub-par silver supplements can often be misleading as well.

Maybe you already have some “colloidal silver” in your medicine cabinet from your local health/vitamin store or another source … how do you know if is the real thing?

Here are some easy ways to know for sure what you’ve got:

  • the liquid is clear and looks like water, it is Ionic Silver.
  • If the bottle it comes in is amber or cobalt colored, it most likely contains ionic silver.  The color of the bottle can indicate that the solution is photosensitive, a common property of many ionic solutions.
  • If the bottle that the product comes in is made out of glass and the label states that the solution must be stored in glass, you’ve got ionic silver.

On the other hand, a true colloidal silver with a high concentration of silver particles does not look like water.  The silver particles, despite their microscopic size, will block light from passing through.

So what do you do if you realize that you’ve been misled and have wasted your money on a basically ineffective supplement?  The best thing to do, in our opinion, is to complain, contact the manufacturing company and let them know that you, the consumer, now know better.

Say Cheese … Silver Ions are Big Business

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Despite naysayers who claim that colloidal silver has no real effect on the human body, companies known world wide are marketing products that beg to differ…

AgPOLYMER, a company based in the UK, is using a silver ion based polymer to keep the surface of cheese free of bacteria. According to AgPOLYMER’s website, the active ingredient in this coating is a “silver ion zeolite” that is a part of the polymer. The site goes on to state that the “silver ions are absorbed by bacterial charges, which destroy the cell walls, inhibiting the reproduction and stopping their metabolism.”

This is the same principle that drives the effectiveness of MesoSilver!

Another company known throughout the world for its bandages, Curad, is now manufacturing CURAD® Silver bandages for at-home use. Curad’s website accurately states that silver is commonly used in hospitals to control infection and that the silver in the pad of the bandage acts as an antibacterial agent. The presence of the silver, claims the website, “reduced bacterial growth like Staph. aureaus, E. coli, E. hirae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa-a powerful germ that does not respond to many antibacterials-in the dressing for 24 hours.”

These commercial uses of silver ions should be of interest to anyone researching colloidal silver. While some may dispute whether colloidal silver has any real effectiveness, there is no disputing the widespread use of the element in big industry. This makes me wonder… would major companies really stake their reputations on an ineffective product? What do you think?

What are the Uses of Colloidal Silver?

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Colloidal silver can be used both topically and internally.  When taken internally, it is thought to provide an immune system boost and is believed to treat many conditions.  When applied topically, it has been used to treat fungus, pink eye, rashes and other skin conditions.

In fact, if you search through the boards at www.colloidforum.com you’ll get the big picture of what real people are doing with Mesosilver. For everything from warts to colds, the testimonials tell the story of how the colloidal silver in Mesosilver can help.

Take, for example, eczema, which produces an itchy red rash in many people, both young and old.  The pharmaceutical relief available includes steroid cream, which must be used with caution, as well as ointments and creams that come with warnings of possible links to certain cancers.  Meanwhile, colloidal silver is all natural, does not build up inside of the body and is non-toxic, and appears to have a healing effect on this particular skin disorder.

So if it is so great, why isn’t colloidal silver approved by the FDA?  Simply because it is not required to be.  Regulation of colloidal silver, as well as other dietary supplements, falls under the umbrella of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA).   The provisions laid out by the DSHEA include the definition of the term dietary supplement as well as requirements for nutrition and ingredient labeling, among other safeguards.

With the lack of reported side effects and the testimonials of real people backing up our claims, it may be worth your while to give Mesosilver a try.  Many prescription drugs claim the possibility of side effects and some, as most of us have experienced, don’t even do the job.  What have you got to lose?

Colloidal Silver / Mesosilver Video

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Colloidal Silver has been known to cure many diseases, ailments and sickneses. This brief video is a general explination of colloidal silver and Mesosilver.

What does Colloidal Silver have that Ionic Silver does not?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Many silver-based supplements on the market today are advertised as colloidal silver, but are really mostly ionic silver and not colloids at all.  What in the world am I talking about?

Once again, time to put on your thinking caps for a brief chemistry lesson….

The term “colloid” simply means particles in suspension.  In the case of colloidal silver, this should mean a high concentration of silver nanoparticles in pure water, with only a small amount of silver ions present.  Pure silver nanoparticles are what make colloidal silver effective inside the human body.  Many mass produced silver solutions contain mostly silver ions — not the same thing!  Solutions that contain ionic silver are cheaper to produce, and are practically ineffective compared to true silver colloids like Mesosilver.

Although all silver colloids will contain some ionic silver, Mesosilver typically contains 80% silver nanoparticles and 20% silver ions.  After testing hundreds of so-called “colloidal silver” solutions, CSL found that almost all fell somewhere in the range of 75-99% ionic silver – most right around 90% ionic.

These silver ions are unstable (missing an electron) and are attracted to other ions.  When ionic silver enters the body, it is highly attracted to chloride ions and forms silver chloride almost immediately upon entering the system.

It is possible for a very high concentration of silver ions to produce an excess of silver chloride in the body that can result in a permanent condition called argyria.  But perhaps the most common side effect of silver chloride is NOTHING.  In fact, silver chloride provides none of the benefits that colloidal silver is known for – it is essentially ineffective.

It is important to know that silver nanoparticles, like those found in Mesosilver colloidal silver, do not cause argyria, and are not turned into silver chloride once they enter the body.  The nanoparticles enter the bloodstream unaffected by other ions.  For colloidal silver to be truly effective, it has to enter the bloodstream as silver nanoparticles.  These particles are slowly removed by the body’s natural excretory system and will not build up.

Once you are aware of this difference in products, you will notice another disturbing trend – the packaging of many mass marketed silver products can be very misleading.
